guys be careful with WD. I dont own this drive but another of 500gb. It worked fine for 12 months. Last week I got scared when I noticed that the disk has stopped working. Today I tried to test my luck again and found that it is alive but making some scary sound. So in short I am rushing this weekend to a nearest store to buy another HD and backup all my data.
I read some reviewer experienced the same thing. couldnt wait to share my experience.

Good product. Had no problems with it in the 9 months I been using it. The only bad piont I've noticed is that it makes a very short buzzing sound very occasionally.

I received a Western Digital external 1TB for Xmas.
The very first time I tried backing up my computer, the cat bumped the cord and now it's DEAD.
I can't see the WD with the utilities I have on my computer, so I'm on the hunt for recovery software.
A waste of money and a waste of time. I'm just glad I haven't been depending on it for months.
As soon as I get my stuff off, I'm taking it back for a refund!

This overall is a useful product but bear in mind it comes with bundled software that installs itself to your boot drive without notification.

This hard drive worked perfectly well for a good 12 months and then ceased to work for no apparent reason. I have since discovered that the chassis is working fine but the actual drive itself is defective. This means that a computer is able to detect the USB interface, but nothing more. I can not access the hard drive and it is now useless to me and I have lost all of my data.
I checked my warranty and I am entitled to a replacement, for which I have to pay the postage fees, but I am not ... Read More
